Ballyshane create beautiful wooden cheese and serving boards, handcrafted using 100% sustainably sourced Irish Hardwoods.
Cottage
Willie and Cheryl’s home in Ballyshane has provided much of the inspiration for their work. Their gorgeous cottage, surrounded by beautiful forestry is filled with the most incredible large bowls, boards and vessels all produced by William.
History
William’s father, John, always harboured a passion for woodturning, coming from two generations of master craftsmen. Together, they’d spend hours discussing the merits of different techniques and types of wood.
Using these cherished memories, William and Cheryl created Ballyshane.
Craftsmanship
Woodturning has always been a passion for William and he has spent the last 17 years honing his craft, working with some of Ireland’s leading companies along the way.
Sustainability
Each Ballyshane board is made from 100% sustainable and traceable Irish hardwoods. Only trees that are dead, dying or wind fell are used for Ballyshane boards.
Each board comes with a traceability tag. The tag lets you know where in Ireland the wood for the board came from.
Packaging: Each board is shipped out using repurposed boxes.
Family
Ballyshane is a family run business. The business would not be possible without the help from Willie and Cheryl’s family. Willie’s Mum, Anne, oils and wraps every single board that leaves the workshop.
The newest members of the team - Ella and baby Jack.
Studio
The Ballyshane studio is based in the gorgeous countryside just outside Carlow town. The studio space includes a workshop where the all the Ballyshane products are handcrafted using Irish wood.
LAZERNOW
From January 2024 Willie and Cheryl will be joined in Ballyshane by Ann Duffy. Ann has run LazerNow from 2009 and is extremely talented with graphic design and laser engraving.
“Using laser engraving technology, LazerNow have developed skills in creating unique custom pieces for their clients. Over the years various types of slate have been tested to find the best for producing high quality images.”
Cheryl and Willlie will be taking over LazerNow from January and working along side Ann.
